CCAT completed a climate vulnerability assessment for the island’s marine resources and activities. The first step was the Baseline Data Inventory, developed in collaboration with FB Environmental Associates. This memo provides a summary of existing conditions, resilience actions, climate change impacts, and data gaps related to the island’s marine resources and activities, from shifting aquatic wildlife populations to working waterfront infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Building on the Baseline Data Inventory, CCAT updated maps of marine resources and activities in and around Chebeague waters. These maps were subsequently incorporated into a comprehensive story map, below, detailing environmental and industry changes over the years, from lobstering and aquaculture to coastal erosion and shifting species ranges. This story map is key to understanding the climate-related challenges, opportunities, and conflicts facing Chebeague’s maritime ecosystem, economy, and cultural identity. while also identifying future climate-related challenges, opportunities.
