Coastal Flooding Community Science

What weather and water level conditions are associated with coastal flooding in our community? What areas of our shoreline are most vulnerable and critical to our community? The Gulf of Maine Research Institute's Coastal Flooding Community Science project collects data to help answer these questions.

As rising sea levels cause more frequent and severe flooding, this project leverages photo submissions from communities across Maine's coastline to gather water-level data and public perspectives on local flooding. A greater understanding of what water level and weather conditions are leading to flooding and where that flooding is occurring in our community can support our larger coastal resilience efforts on Chebeague. Take part by submitting photo observations from Chebeague's five monitoring sites!
